VIRTUAL VISITS Join me in my studio for a live Zoom session, with a special reading and behind the scenes look at my studio and process. With fun-filled draw-along activities. Sessions are interactive and encourage children to take part in imaginative thinking and drawing.
"Our Kindergarten to Year 2 students started the morning with an illustrating class with author/illustrator Sara Acton. From her home artist studio, Sara talked everyone through the process of writing and illustrating a book and where her inspiration comes from – her pets are her main source of inspiration. Sara also discussed how important it is to research a topic and gather ideas before you start to write and illustrate. She showed students the research she’d undertaken and the images she’d collected about dinosaurs before writing her book Dinosaurs day out. One of Sara’s well-known characters is Mr Walker, the Labrador from The Tales of Mr Walker and she shared with us, all her photos of the real Mr Walker and all the drawings she did of him before deciding what he should look like. Everyone had an opportunity to drawing their own Mr Walker with great success!"
"Just wanted to say thank you again for speaking to our K-2 students. The feedback from staff was really positive and the girls were so excited to tell us all about drawing dinosaurs! It was so lovely for them to hear your ideas and participate in some activities that allowed them to be the illustrators."

PRE-RECORDED VIRTUAL VISITS
Pre-recorded virtual visits can be tailored to your school and incorporate a tour of my studio, a peek at the process involved in making a picture book and a look at sketch-booking ideas. With fun activities and story-starters to spark book-making ideas.
"Thank you again for your video about picture books and Dinosaur Day Out. The yr. 7 students enjoyed watching it and each class took a little while to notice the dinosaur on our school grounds. They have produced some excellent picture books with one group having produced theirs with end pages, and they look great." Central Coast Grammar School
Our visiting author/illustrator for Bookweek was the talented Sara Acton. Sara's book 'Stitches and Stuffing' made the CBCA notables list for 2018. Many of her other books are included in the Premier's Reading Challenge, which promotes reading quality literature. Our students were able to experience how Sara creates her books and even got to design their own characters using anthropomorphism. We were treated to a preview of Sara's latest book, Dinosaur Day Out and now have a beautiful signed copy on display in our library.
